Thanks to Ben Truwe for the following 19 Dec 1914 Medford Mail Tribune Clipping that verifies the existence of Mapes shop in Medford - the machine in the second postcard apparently was used for cutting and polishing agates and/or other stones.

Two postcards in my collection sent from Medford, Oregon 528 Main St. where W. I. Mapes had a shop. Obviously he sold Native American baskets, beads, moccasins etc. and in another part of his shop was some kind of unidentified equipment. Postcards front and back are posted here. If you know of W.
